Which groups are involved in the Partnership?
The Severnside Community Rail Partnership brings together Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bristol City Council, First Great Western, Gloucestershire County Council, North Somerset Council, Rail Passengers Committee Western England, Somerset County Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Wessex Trains.
What is the aim of the Partnership?
The Partnership aims to provide a forum for the variety of stakeholders and other interested parties who can participate in the development of quality rail services that are matched to local community needs. As well as the train operators, Network Rail and the local authorities, the Partnership will be working with community organisations, businesses, development and tourism agencies to identify and implement measures that encourage the use of rail services.
What has been achieved by the Partnership?
The Severnside Community Rail Partnership was formed in the summer of 2004 and is unique in that it covers a wide geographical area that includes both urban and rural localities, served by a network of routes. The emphasis of the partnership has been on quick wins and practical initiatives that benefit passengers and can be delivered quickly. The Partnership has already secured more local train services, providing better station information through simplified departure posters, and begun the work of involving local communities. Traveline provides timetables and journey planners for bus, coach and rail services in the South West. Traveline is also available on tel. 0871 200 22 33 between 7 am and 10 pm (calls cost 10p per minute from landlines).
Transport Direct is designed to be the first complete transport journey planner for Great Britain. In addition to providing public transport information, you can compare car journeys with national and local public transport (excluding GB internal air).
Severnside Community Rail Partnership was formed in Summer 2004 following an initiative by the former Rail Passengers Committee for Western England. As well as the train operators, Network Rail and the local authorities, the Partnership is working with community organisations, businesses, development and tourism agencies to identify and implement measures that encourage the use of rail services.
