Littering: why should you care?
 fag on pavement poster

Litter spoils our neighbourhoods and our environment, attracting pests such as flies and rats.

The cost of dealing with litter falls to the taxpayer. Local authorities in England have to spend about £340 million a year tackling the problem.

Anyone caught dropping litter will be given an on-the-spot £75 fine, with no warning.

Households and businesses should also be aware that putting refuse out for collection outside of specified times constitutes littering.

Find out more about refuse collection regulations for households and businesses.
