Following the severe weather in late 2010, the Department for Transport allocated funding to local Council's nationwide to address the deterioration of the road network caused by the icy conditions. Our area received £854,000.
This money was in addition to the total £4.3 million budget for proactive road surface improvements and reactive maintenance that the Council had already agreed for 2011/12.
How has the money been used?
The Council has used this money for two purposes:
1. Extend our capital road surface improvement programme to include roads which were just outside the prioritised list of sites identified this year. These improvements are:
· Resurfacing at Longfellow Avenue and Milton Avenue at Bear Flat, Bath is already complete; Cambridge Terrace, Bathwick, Bath is programmed for October 2011 with the remaining two sites at Osborne Road, Newbridge and Julian Road, Lansdown programmed to be completed in March 2012.
· Surface dressing at Bannerdown, Batheaston; St. Catherine Lane, St. Catherine; Leigh Lane, St. Catherine and Redlynch Lane, Compton Dando were all completed in June this year.
· Micro-asphalt work at Blind Lane, Chew Stoke; Poolemead Road, Twerton and Carpenters Lane, Keynsham - these have been completed
2. Additional patching and pothole repairs.
· The extra money has allowed us to complete an additional 14,600 square metres of carriageway and footway patching and over 800 pothole repairs.
· Work has taken place on 722 individual sites over the past 6 months. These include, Upper & Lower Oldfield Park, Bath; Woodborough Hill Peasedown St John; Wilmington Hill, Marksbury; Haydon Hill, Radstock; Stanton Wick Lane, Bromley Road, Upper Stanton Road all in Stanton Drew; Marsden Road, Bath; Mount Road, Bath; Carlingcott Lane, Peasedown St John; Holloway, Bath; Ambleside Road, Bath; Belmont Road, Bath; Farmborough Lane, Priston; Lansdown View, Bath; Bristol Road and Keepers Hill, Newton St Loe; Ashgrove, Peasedown St John; Monger Lane, Midsomer Norton; Frome Old Road, Radstock; Home Farm Lane, Newton St Loe; Westfield close, Bath and Chaucer Road, Bath.
These works are now largely completed with the remainder programmed to be completed by the end of October 2011.
