The Council has drawn up a plan to improve the environment for shoppers and visitors in the centre of Bath. The Public Realm and Movement Strategy proposes transforming the look and feel of the city centre, building on the city’s unique history and character to create a series of inspiring and accessible public spaces.
A series of new maps, signs and systems to provide information about public transport will be launched to help both residents and visitors. This will start with the redeveloped SouthGate area and be extended across the centre.
Currently, the streets in the centre are surfaced with a wide range of materials, so we will also launch a project to identify the best material than can be used throughout the area.
The Council wants Bath to be a city that regards access for pedestrians and cyclists as a priority in the centre, and where public transport can move around easily.
Benefits for the whole community
Increasing the number of people who walk rather than drive through Bath will reduce the number of cars on our roads. It will also have health benefits, which may help reduce care costs for the community in the long term.
Have your say about these improvements.
