Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender history month (LGBT history month) is celebrated each year in February. It is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about the histories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the UK.
For LGBT History month 2017
The Council flew the Rainbow Pride Flag from the Roof of the Guildhall in Bath from 1st February. Here is a photo of it brightening the gloomy February sky.
A special 'craftism' event was held at the Guildhall on 7th February 2016, at 4.45pm. ‘Craftivism’ is using hand-made art to express opinions or to support a movement: a combination of craft and activism. Young people from SPACE LGBTQ+ youth group displayed a handmade time line highlighting important dates in LGBTQ+ history, and there was a chance to get involved and create a rainbow garland to display during February in your school or place of work. If you are a member of the LGB&T community and would like an invite to similar events in the future, please email firstname.lastname@example.org;
Local schools were sent resources to make rainbow garlands
Bath Central Library again created a special display of books and resources
Here are some photos from our 2017 'Craftivism' event: garlands, genderbread, timelines and lots of glitter! Check out the chairman of the Council's cool rainbow socks. Photos from our LGBT history month events in 2015 and 2016 are shown below.
