The Parliamentary general election and local government elections took place on Thursday 7 May 2015

On that day electors voted in the general election to choose their local Member of Parliament, the district elections to choose the 65 Members of Bath & North East Somerset Council, and the 445 seats on the district's 48 parish councils.

If you want to have your say at the forthcoming elections, you must be registered to vote. 

You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or you can download a registration form from the Documents section of this page. The deadline to register to vote is Monday 20 April 2015.

If you are away or cannot go to the polling station on Thursday 7 May, you can do one of the following:

  • Apply to vote by post. You can download a postal vote application form from the Documents section of this page. The deadline to submit completed postal vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April 2015. If you are given a postal vote, you will not be able to vote in person at these elections.   • Apply to vote by proxy, which means appointing someone to vote on your behalf. You can download a proxy vote application form from the Documents section of this page. The deadline to submit completed proxy vote applications is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2015. More information on voting by proxy.

We will publish the lists of candidates standing at each election shortly after the deadline for nominations, which is 4pm on Thursday 9 April 2015.

The nomination period for the election of Members of Parliament starts on Wednesday 1 April 2015 and finishes on Thursday 9 April 2015. Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the (Acting) Returning Officer, Council Chamber, Guildhall, High Street, Bath, BA1 5AW, on Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm (excluding bank holidays), but no later than 4pm on Thursday 9 April 2015. This deadline is set out in law and cannot be changed for any reason. Any nomination papers delivered after this deadline will not be accepted.
