The Circus Traffic Management
A scheme to manage traffic flow through The Circus, George Street and Bennett Street is being considered by the Council. A plan showing the outline of the scheme has been sent to local residents and is attached to this web site.
In order to achieve this operation, the following proposals will be temporarily implemented:
- No vehicular entry will be permitted into the northern section of Gay Street at its junction with George Street. (see attached plan) Cyclists will be exempt from this prohibition.
- Bennett Street - buses will be prohibited except local buses* (* those operating to a timetable including the open top buses.)
- Along most of George Street ‘No Loading / Unloading’ will apply Monday to Saturday inclusive in the morning between 7am and 11am then during the afternoon 3pm and 7pm. However a short length of George Street on the north side of the carriageway, between Bartlett Street and Lansdown Road, will be designated as “No Loading / Unloading at any time”.
The proposed scheme will operate under experimental traffic orders for a period of 18 months. The 18 months is a trial period to allow the Council to monitor these proposed changes and also provide a chance for local people to assess the outcome of the changes and to give feedback. The scheme may then be made permanent.
An informal consultation is currently being undertaken and the Council would like to receive feedback from Bath residents, motorists and those directly or indirectly affected by the scheme. Please return your comments by the 18th February 2013.
