Family Cycling

Getting on a bike is a great way to feel healthy in body and mind. It's a form of transport so can be used to get around which can save you money and help the environment.

Cycling is also a great low impact activity so it is easier on your joints than high impact aerobic exercise.

Bath and North East Somerset is very fortunate to have hosted a number of major cycling events, including the Tour of Britain stage 5 start in 2014 and the stage 5 finish in 2016. We are also home to a superb 1.5km purpose built cycle circuit at Odd Down Sports Ground.  This facility is perfect for complete beginners and racers, alike. To complement the local buzz around cycling and our facilities, there are a number of cycle routes throughout the area which take in various scenic views within Bath city centre and out across the surrounding countryside. There are also plenty of cycling clubs and groups to get involved with.

Try Active logo

Try Active is a local project with an aim to get more people active through running, outdoor fitness/rugby and cycling. Our friendly and approachable Cycling Try Activator, Terry Street, is currently offering a number of opportunities to get you on your bike at Odd Down Cycle Circuit. Join him on:

Friday mornings 9.30am - 12pm for our Social Spokes casual cycling session.  It's a drop-in session with Terry who will be available to get you started on your wheels within the safety of our closed, traffic-free circuit. Once you've burned off hundreds of calories on the circuit you can celebrate in the on-site cafe with a natter and a cuppa!  Sessions are £1 when you bring your own bike or £3 if you wish to hire one at the circuit.

Sofa to Saddle course - this is a 6 week course aimed at those who want to cycle more but perhaps need to gain confidence, skills and fitness first. Participants will start out at Odd Down Cycle Circuit before taking to the local cycle paths/routes by the end of the course. This is not a learn to ride course for non-cyclists; however, we can offer learn to ride sessions with our Bikeability Instructor, Liz, so please contact bikeability@bathnes.gov.uk for further details. The next Sofa to Saddle course will run on:

Thursdays 5 - 6pm from 14th September - 19th October at Odd Down Cycle Circuit

£25 for 6 week course
