Advice on submitting comments

  • If you would like to support or object to a current planning application within the consultation period please do so using the comments form on our Public Access pages.  Alternatively you can write to Planning Services, Lewis House, Manvers Street, Bath BA1 1JG quoting the application reference number and address.  Please include your name and address (including postcode) when commenting.
  • Please ensure that any comments made are submitted within the 21 day consultation period (as representations received after the determination of any application cannot be considered). Any comment relating to an application should be based on its planning merits and must not contain language that is offensive, abusive or malicious. A few examples of valid objections would be loss of light or overshadowing, traffic generation, highway safety or road access, noise or smells resulting from use, layout and density of the building. A few examples of issues that are not planning matters would be loss of view, loss of property value, loss of trade to competitor, breach of covenant, moral objection.
  • For applications pending a decision that are outside the consultation period you can still comment direct to  If you want to do this it is recommended that you do so as soon as possible because a decision can be made any time after the consultation period has expired.
  • You cannot comment on decided applications or applications for Discharge of Condition/Legal Obligation or Non-Material Amendment (reference numbers ending COND, LEGOB, D6A, D6BA and NMA).

However, the Council endeavours to remove personal contact details such as email address and/or phone number prior to uploading to the web.  Under the provisions of the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985, any representations received may be read and copied.
  • Due to the volume of correspondence received on applications it is not possible to acknowledge or respond to these comments.
