The Five Arches scheme is an important part of the cycle network in Midsomer and Radstock area connecting directly (via a Toucan crossing) from the existing Norton Radstock (NR) Greenway.

The NR Greenway is a shared use path between the centre of Radstock and Midsomer Norton. This therefore provides a traffic free route between Midsomer Norton and Radstock areas and The Five Arches. From the NR Greenway there are also links to the Colliers Way (NCN 24) and the Two Tunnels scheme.

Investigations have been carried out by the council to extend the NR Greenway westwards towards Farrington Gurney along a disused railway.

The 5 Arches provides a spine route which links two large housing estates in the Westfield area, Midsomer Norton High Street, the Leisure Centre and areas of Welton, Paulton, Radstock and beyond. This provides a recreational route for walkers, runners and a safe area for children learning to cycle.

This is multi- use path, so that horse riders are able to link between the section of the NR Greenway which is also multi-use, the Fosseway which is a Byway open to all traffic (BOAT) and the surrounding country lanes.

In addition this provides an off road link to the Midsomer Norton Sports Centre, new adventure park & skate park.
