Can I bring in my own equipment to use in the library?
Although we welcome users with laptops in any of our desked areas, there are special socket points within Bath Central Library quiet study area, Keynsham Library and Midsomer Norton Library. All other library buildings mains circuits are not set up for this yet, so any customers plugging in any type of equipment to the library's mains electric will be breaching library procedures.
The majority of our libraries (excluding the mobile library & Moorland Road) have free WiFi. Members and visitors can also access the internet on the public network computers.
On occasions you may see exhibitors in the Bath Library exhibition space with their own equipment plugged in, however this is in accordance with the bookings procedure and only done with prior agreement of the Library Managers.
Can anyone use the computers & other IT facilities?
Yes, but you need to join the library first. Becoming a member is free and it's very easy to join - find out how to join. If you are only visiting the area for a short time, then we can provide you with a non-members card that will allow you to access the internet. You will need to book your session at the counter when you collect your card.
Do I have to pay to use a computer?
No. You can use the public access computers in our library branches free of charge.
Do I need to book first?
Computers are bookable for sessions of 2 hours maximum. Further sessions can be booked, however there is a 60 minute delay between each session booking.
To book a session just ask a member of staff in the library, or call Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41.
A library membership ticket and PIN are required to log in and use all public network computers.
Temporary visitors to the area can request a Visitor Log-In for a 30 minute session.
You can now also use the computers in any LibrariesWest authority library with your existing membership card.
What software packages are available?
All computers have access to the standard Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Are printers available?
Yes. Black & white and colour printers are available at Bath Central Library, Keynsham Library and Midsomer Norton Library. Black & white printers are also available at Moorland Road Library, Paulton Library, Radstock Library, Saltford Library and Weston Library. Printing charges of 10p per sheet for black & white and 50p per sheet for colour apply.
Can I access the internet and /or check my emails?
Internet access is available on all the PCs. However certain sites will be restricted due to their content. When children log on they will also have restricted access. Email accounts can be accessed as normal from all PCs. You may need to set up a web based email account such as Outlook.com (Hotmail) to do this first.

Computer cut-off times
Please be aware that all computers in our libraries automatically shut down 10 minutes before closing time, we are unable to make exceptions to these timings. We advise all users to give themselves at least 5 minutes to allow logging off and time to get any information or printing done.
