Can I join the library?

Any UK resident may join the library and it is free. If you are here on holiday you can also join and have full access to our services during your stay.

Where can I find out about volunteering for the library service?

We are always looking to recruit volunteers into the Library service, see how you can help by visiting our dedicated webpages.

When are the libraries open? When is the next mobile visit?

We have leaflets of library opening times and our mobile libraries which are split into East and West or you will find the details with other information about each library in our your local library section. We close for bank holidays.

Where is my local library?

You can find your nearest library using the 'serivces in your area' function on the right hand side of this page. You simply need to enter your postcode and select libraries from the choose service option. You can also find the nearest mobile stops.

How many items can I borrow?

You can borrow up to 20 items at any one time with a maximum of 8 audio visual items.

Can I extend my loans?

You can renew your books up to 20 times, unless someone else has requested them and then you will be given 3 days from the day you are renewing the item to return them. If you renew your CDs or DVDs you will be charged a further hire charge, which you can pay when you return the item.

How long can I borrow an item?

Depending on the item you can actually borrow items for up to 4 weeks. More information is available here.

How much does it cost to join the library?

It is free to become a member of our libraries, to borrow books and maps. We do charge for some services and for items that are returned late.

How do I get a the library card?

You can get a membership card at your local library or online using the Librarieswest website. If you are under 16 you will require your parent or guardian to be present.

When will I get the card?

If you visit the library we will issue the card immediately. If you join online then when you come to the library with your temporary number we can then give you a card.

What is LibrariesWest?

Our libraries are in the Librarieswest which gives you many benefits. Librarieswest is a consortium between Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset and South Gloucestershire public library services.

What is my PIN?

When you join the library we will give you a personal identification number (PIN). If you do not have a PIN or have forgotten your PIN please contact us.

What if I have lost my library card?

If you have lost your library card please notify us immediately. We will replace your first card free of charge. Any subsequent replacements in the same year will be charged for.

What if I have moved house?

Please let us know if you have moved house. You can update your details online at the Librarieswest website or contact us and we will update your record.

Can I plug my laptop and mobile phone into a socket?

You can do this in Bath Central Library & Keynsham on the dedicated plug sockets in the quiet study area. You are unable to plug anything in, in other libraries. 

Can I pay by debit or credit card?

Yes in all Libraries except Saltford, Paulton and the Mobiles.

Who do I contact for a reference library enquiry?

Our Enquiry Centre can help with business information, study and quiz queries.

Do you have old newspapers?

Yes, local newspapers on microfilm, some national newspapers including the Times digital archive which goes back to 1785!

Do you have WiFi?

We  have FREE WiFi in Keynsham, Bath Central & Midsomer Norton Libraries.
