If you’re interested in reading, discussing your ideas and listening to others then why not join a reading group?

A different book is chosen by the group each month, and discussed at the next meeting. It’s a great way to meet new people and exchange interesting ideas about the authors and their work.

Library Reading Groups

We have a number of groups around the area:

  • Baby and Me Book Group, meets at Weston Library on the second Friday of the month 11.00am -12.00pm. This group is aimed at new mums that want to get together, make some new friends and share their love of reading; you can also bring the little ones along too! Pop in to Weston Library or contact Katie_Whelan-Jones@bathnes.gov.uk for more information.

  • Bath Central Library - we run two reading groups, but we do have a waiting list, so contact us with your details.

  • For adults interested in reading and discussing Children's books, old or new. The group, Children's Classics for Grown-Ups, meets on the first Wednesday of each month. Places are limited to 10 adults, so if you are interested in joining the group then leave your details with a member of staff at the main counter at Bath Central Library.

  • Young Adult Reading Group in Bath Library - once a month on a Wednesday evening - ages 16 - 25 years.

We can also help you set up your own Reading Group

You can join your own reading group of up to 10 people. You can register your own reading group with the library and receive many benefits. Fill in a special registration form at the library. You can reserve up to 10 copies for a charge of £5.00 and can borrow items for 8 weeks.

In return, the library service will keep you informed of Library reader events. If you wish, we can refer new members to you. We can provide support and advice in starting and running a Reading Group, and will provide space in Bath Central Library meeting rooms, or you can hire one of our branch libraries.

We suggest that you reserve books at least 6 weeks in advance to ensure you get a full set, and you can give us details of when you want them to enable you to plan ahead.
