The LSCB in B&NES supports the workforce to celebrate and involve fathers in children's lives. In 2012-13 a Celebrating Fatherhood campaign was launched to promote the importance of fathers in children’s lives. The campaign was developed in partnership with a small multi-agency working group which decided to focus attention on how we could raise the profile of men more in children’s lives, based on sound evidence. Our intention was to be inclusive of all men who play a significant role in children’s lives: hence the title Celebrating Fatherhood, rather than the working title of “Year of the Father”.

The associated pages celebrate both the success of the campaign with the tangible difference we have made in combating the main obstacles fathers and male carers still face, as well as more recent achievements and ongoing projects.

Our project was a year-long promotional campaign focused on reaching out to forgotten fathers & male carers and brining to the consciousness of professionals outside the organisation and services within the council. We ran a programme of events to raise awareness and engage both fathers and professionals. These were wide ranging and delivered by the different agencies. We engaged fathers with targeted events such as Fathers Friday, Dads Stay & Play on Saturday mornings, play walks, etc. We also ran a training & education programme to support the workforce.

Links on the left give more detail on some of the projects that we ran and the grid below shows some of the outcomes and performance measures for the Celebrating Fatherhood campaign which show the difference the our work has made in engaging Fathers and Male Carers has made.
