Garden waste collections
The council provides a fortnightly garden waste collection for a charge (except over Christmas - please see Bank Holiday Collections for details).
To find out costs or to apply for a garden waste bin or sacks please go to the following links:
You may also find the links on the right hand side of this page useful.
What are the garden waste collections?
Garden waste is collected every fortnight to be made into compost. It is collected by paying for our wheeled bin service or by purchasing individual paper sacks that are biodegradable and suitable for composting.
The garden waste collections have been designed to collect the materials that you would not normally compost at home. Please try and compost as much as you can at home. See Compost bin offer for more information.
What do we collect?
Flower and plant waste
Leaves and bark
What do we NOT collect?
NO food waste (but you can recycle this in your black bin food waste recycling collection)
NO Japanese Knotweed
NO large branches or logs
NO sawdust and wood shavings (please put this in the wood bin at a Recycling Centre)
NO cardboard (but you can recycle this in your blue bag collection)
When and how to put your garden waste out
Your recycling, rubbish and composting (garden waste) are all collected on the same day but your composting collection is every fortnight. To find out your collection day and week, please put your postcode or street name into Services in your area at the top right hand side of this page.
Click here for your 2014 garden waste collections calendar.
Garden waste will only be collected from the Council's wheeled bins or paper sacks.
Please make sure that you put your garden waste out by 7am on your collection day or after 8pm the night before. If you need to report a missed collection, please go to Report a missed collection.
If you need help with your collections please go to Need help with your collections?
We collect on all Bank Holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. For more information please go Bank Holiday collections.
Recycling your garden waste helps to save energy and resources. It also helps to reduce the impact of climate change. It is cheaper for us to recycle than to send waste to landfill.
To find out where we send your garden waste for recycling and what happens to it, please go to What happens to the materials we recycle.
