Millennium Volunteers break records in Bath & North East Somerset

A young woman from Bath will receive an award on Wednesday (March 31) in a competition to reward young people involved in voluntary work.

Lizzy Epsley, who is a sixth form student at The Royal High School and a Millennium Volunteer, was one of 425 young people who entered the competition organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Millennium Volunteers is a national project which is run by Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Youth and Community team on a local level.

With 100 hours of voluntary work completed with the past year, Lizzy is now aiming to complete 200 hours by June.

On March 31, at 1pm there will be a presentation at Bath Rugby Ground when one of the team will present her with a Sony MiniDisk.

Lizzy has been involved in a whole range of volunteering including RSPCA dog walking, Zoo club, Gateway club, hospital volunteering, Junior school reception, Junior school netball club.

She won the competition by simply completing a Millennium Volunteer questionnaire and her name was drawn out of the hat.

Millennium Volunteers co-ordinator Harri Harrison said: ‘Bath & North East Somerset is delighted to see the number of Millennium Volunteers continue to increase. It is a great way for people to demonstrate to future employers or Universities that they are motivated and dedicated.’

Bath & North East Somerset Council Leader Councillor Paul Crossley will also be at the presentation.

He said: “Young people today are often criticised for their lack of community spirit.  Lizzy is a perfect example of the opposite – hard working, enthusiastic and committed to helping others.”
