Re-usable nappies

Re-usable nappies are also known under many other names, such as Real Nappies, Cloth Nappies, Washable Nappies or even Terry Nappies. They have evolved significantly in the past decade and are a popular choice for eco-conscious parents.

Re-usable nappies come in a vast range of colours and fabrics. They often look like disposables, and can be just as easy to put on and take off again.

Why choose re-usable nappies?

Swapping to re-usable nappies is easy, it can save you money and reduce your impact on the environment.

Re-usable nappies are cheaper. It is estimated that the cost of buying and using re-usable nappies is between £182 and £359. The estimated cost of using disposable nappies is £922 (Women's Environmental Network)

Re-usable nappies means less waste to landfill

Nearly 3 billion disposable nappies are thrown away in the UK each year. This works out as 8 million nappies everyday. 90% of these end up in landfill. (Women's Environmental Network)

Re-usable nappies can save energy and resources

The number of disposable nappies used over the average 2.5 years that a child uses nappies is in the region of 3,796. The number of re-usable nappies used for same time is 30 (www.defra.gov.uk - An updated lifecycle assessment study for disposable and re-usable nappies)

Bath Cloth Nappy Library

The Bath Cloth Nappy Library is now open!

If you are new to cloth and want to learn more, or an old hand with a new issue, Bath Cloth Nappy Library has nappies for you to try and information to share.

The library runs regular nappuccinos to enable the sharing of information and experience, locally in Bath.  They also provide a loan service, where parents may borrow nappies from the library to determine whether cloth is for them. A small charge is made to cover the costs of running the library, and enable us to expand the range of nappies available for loan.

The library is run by cloth nappy expert Ruth Walcot, every Friday 1-3pm at the Percy Community Centre, New King Street, Bath BA1 2BN

For more information or any queries, please visit Bath Cloth Nappy Library's Facebook page or email bathclothnappylibrary@gmail.com
