Local Energy Champions 2010/11

Eight community groups from Timsbury, Widcombe, University of Bath, Keynsham, Twerton, Radstock, and Newbridge worked in their local areas with residents on activities including home visits, electricity monitor loans, creating local energy plans, putting on community events and training workshops, with the chance to win £1,000 to invest in further environmentally related activities.

The overall winners were Newbridge Primary School for their engagement with parents at the school. Paula Malone, a teacher at the school, "Our Energy Team are absolutely delighted to be Bath & North East Somerset's Local Energy Champions.  The children have worked hard and enjoyed raising the profile of energy efficiency among the school community.  It is fantastic that their enthusiasm, dedication and achievement have been recognised by the Council."
The school will be using the £1,000 prize money to build upon their work with pupils and parents, extending their project into the community. Prizes were also awarded to groups that did not win, such as for £250 worth of design and printing material, providing further support to projects.

The Local Energy Champions competition was kindly supported by; B&NES Council Print Services, City Car Club, Bath Organic Gardens, More Trees (for B&NES), Lovely Drinks, Bath Co-Op, Bath Waitrose, Energy Saving Trust, Demuths, Ecover, Ecotricity, Theatre Royal, Wessex Water, Your Power, Good Energy, and B&NES Waste Services.
