Bath and North East Somerset Council expects all new development to be of the highest quality and we are committed to raising the standard of design.  We therefore positively support the use of design review in the assessment of the design quality of development proposals. 

The National Planning Policy Framework also supports design review:

Local planning authorities should have local design review arrangements in place to provide assessment and support to ensure high standards of design. They should also when appropriate refer major projects for a national design review. In general, early engagement on design produces the greatest benefits. In assessing applications, local planning authorities should have regard to the recommendations from the design review panel.

Accordingly, Bath and North East Somerset Council endorses the referral of appropriate schemes to local and national design panels.
