Bath & North East Somerset Council have long recognised that losing a beloved pet can be almost as traumatic as losing a member of the family. Indeed, a family pet can be the only family some people have, and they need to remember and mourn in a similar way to any other bereavement.

So in February 2000 a quiet corner of the cemetery was set aside to be a place for pets to be remembered. It is well screened from the rest of the cemetery by a hedge of conifers, which create a quiet area for those attending the graves there.

We can only bury the bodies of small domestic family pets, such as cats & dogs. However we are able to accommodate the ashes of any pet whose life you wish to celebrate.

Please contact us if you require any more information or advice, staff are always ready to help and will treat the burial of your pet with the same care and sympathy with which they would treat any other.

Burial

We offer grave spaces suitable for one pet interment. Each pet must be in a coffin, which you may ask us to supply, or you may supply your own. Suitable memorials are available from local stonemasons, although all memorials do need a permit before they can be brought into the cemetery.

Cremated remains

If you have had your pet cremated and just have the ashes, we can inter them near a tree or shrub with a small brass coloured plaque. We can accommodate larger pets (e.g. horses) in this way – our graves are only for domestic pets.

We are unable to offer a cremation service for pets.

Book of Remembrance

There is a Book of Remembrance dedicated to pets. This is kept in the Book of Remembrance room at the Top Chapel. You may have an entry in the Book, even if your pet is not buried at Haycombe.

Entries are made on the date of death and the Book is turned each day to coincide with the current date, which means that on the anniversary of the date that you lost your pet, you will be able to visit the Top Chapel, see the entry, & remember.

Please feel free to contact us at any time, we are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about this service. Application forms for all of the above services are available from the office.
