1. Aim of the West of England Sustainable Construction Network (WESCON)

The West of England Sustainable Construction Network (WESCON) was set up in 2007 in order to promote sustainability in planning, design and construction across the West of England sub-region and to promote peer learning through the pooling of expertise and knowledge in the field of sustainable construction and design.

2. Membership of the WESCON

The group is a multi-disciplinary one comprising town planners, surveyors, architects, urban designers, landscape architects, environmental and policy specialists from local authorities, professional membership bodies (such as RTPI and RICS), Universities, Further Education institutions and Environmental Consultancies.

WESCON is jointly convened and managed by Cleo Newcombe-Jones (Town Planner, Bath & North East Somerset Council) and Lucy Pedler (architect, The Green Register and Develeco limited). There is no charge for joining WESCON, but members should have experience and knowledge in the field of Sustainable Construction, Buildings and Design. 3. WESCON Meetings

WESCON meets 2-3 times per year. Meetings typically combine site visits and/or presentations from invited speakers together with the core meeting. The meetings foster collaborations and joint funding bids with WESCON members and promote professional sustainable building training. 

Recent site visits have included:

• Bath Western Riverside District Heating Energy Centre, Bath
