Paths that can be used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders are on the increase and so is the number of people using them, so Bath & North East Somerset Council is encouraging everyone to follow safety tips.
The paths, known as shared or multi use routes, are many things to many people. They can serve as integral commuting routes, a quick link between nearby communities, attractive leisure areas and important wildlife corridors.
Everyone has equal priority to use the paths and the Council is asking people to look out for and be considerate to others.
Helpful safety tips include:
1.) Move over and allow space for those wishing to pass you
2.) Give warning of your approach and pass others slowly and carefully
3.) Remember to use verbal warning when passing horses
4.) Use lights or wear bright clothing when necessary
5.) Do not use these routes to train horses and riders
6.) Keep dogs under control at all times
7.) Clean up after your dog
8.) Do not drop litter
9.) Respect the privacy of landowners
10.) Do not trespass on privately owned land
11.) All motor vehicles are prohibited.
There are a number of shared use paths across Bath and North East Somerset, including sections of the following routes:
