Arts Funding - Bath & North East Somerset Council

1.  About the Council's arts funding

Bath & North East Somerset Council has two funding schemes to support arts events and activities taking place in the district

  • Cultural Olympiad Arts Project Funding: Micro Grants Scheme - awarded quarterly for sums of £500 only
  • Three-year Arts Development Funding for Key Strategic Organisations - awarded every three years. Application to this scheme is currently closed. Funding has been awarded to a range of Key Strategic Organisations for 2011-14 and application for funding for events and activity taking place during 2014-17 is expected to begin in June 2013

2. Cultural Olympiad Arts Project Funding Micro Grants

Cultural Olympiad Arts Project Micro Grants are for a fixed sum of £500 only.

Between June 2011 and March 2013, these £500 grants are available for arts projects or activities which:

  • Support and contribute to the Olympics values and themes
  • Take place between 1 August 2011 and 31 March 2013

What is the Cultural Olympiad?

The Cultural Olympiad is the national programme of celebrations, events and projects leading up to the London 2012 Olympics and the Paralympics. 

Cultural Olympiad arts projects can include for example:
Dance, film, photography, crafts, visual arts, theatre/drama, literature & creative writing, music, creative play projects for children; and arts projects that relate to heritage, local history, nature and wildlife, and sport.

When to apply

Applications for Cultural Olympiad Arts Project Micro Grants will be assessed and funding awarded quarterly, between May 2011 and 31 December 2012.

You can submit your application by which ever of the dates below is most convenient for your project.

  • Apply by 31 March 2012 - Notification on or after 30 April 2012 for projects starting after 1 May 2012
  • Apply by 30 June 2012  - Notification on or after 31 July 2012 for projects starting after 1 August 2012
  • Apply by 30 September 2012  - Notification on or after 31 October 2012 for projects starting after 1 November 2012
  • Apply by 31 December 2012 - Notification on or after 31 January 2013 for projects starting after 1 February 2013

PLEASE NOTE THESE DEADLINES CAREFULLY. NO EXCEPTIONS CAN BE MADE FOR APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED AFTER THE DEADLINE AND FUNDING CANNOT BE AWARDED FOR WORK THAT HAS ALREADY BEGUN.

All funded projects should be completed by 31 March 2013.

How to apply

To apply for a Cultural Olympiad Arts Project Micro Grant your group needs to have a written constitution and a bank account in the name of the group. We cannot accept applications from individuals.

3. Three-year Arts Development Funding for Key Strategic Organisations

Every three years, the Council invites arts organisations to apply to become Key Strategic Organisations for the arts. Successful applicants are funded for three years to deliver arts activities that help to achieve the aims of the Bath and North East Somerset Sustainable Community Strategy, and that address the priorities of the Council's Arts Development Strategy.

Application to this funding scheme is currently closed.  

What does the Council fund?

When to apply

Application for funding for events and activities taking place during 2014-17 is expected to begin in June 2013. Information about how to apply will be posted on this page in due course.
