The first week of the new rubbish collections is nearly complete and Bath & North East Somerset Council wants to thank residents for their patience and support in helping to make the new collections work.
A phenomenal number of residents have contacted us to ask for additional recycling and food waste containers to help them recycle even more every week. In the past week alone we have had over 3,000 requests for additional recycling containers. Please bear with us whilst we deliver these. We’ve got additional staff and trucks delivering them, but it may take a few weeks to get to everyone. If you don’t want to wait, you can collect them from the Council’s Recycling Centres in Bath, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton. Alternatively you can continue to put your recycling out in other suitable containers while you are waiting. Please be aware that Bath & North East Somerset Council is only delivering recycling containers on request.
Cllr Bob Goodman (Conservative, Combe Down), Cabinet Member for Development & Neighbourhoods, said: “We would like to thank everyone for helping with this transition to the new service.
“This is one of the biggest changes Bath & North East Somerset Council has made to the waste collections and we really want to thank residents and staff for helping it to go as well as it has. It is a big change to get used to and we’d ask you to bear with us. If you’re confused about the new service, we encourage you to check our website at www.bathnes.gov.uk/recycle where we have over 30 FAQs to help deal with most of the questions you may have.”
Feedback shows that the majority of residents are putting their waste out with no problems and on their new collection day. The crews are managing the new bins, vehicles and routes well and are completing their rounds successfully. However crews have reported that there is still some confusion about the new collection day with a small number of people putting their rubbish out on the wrong day and week.
Bath & North East Somerset Council is urging everyone to check the information pack that came with their bin/bag which includes a calendar showing them their new collection day. You can also check your collection day by going to www.bathnes.gov.uk/checkcollection
Over 4,500 people have already signed up to the text reminder service to help them remember when to put their rubbish out.
If you find you have mistakenly put your rubbish out on the wrong day, please bring it back in and put it out again on your correct collection day.
Now that the new every other week rubbish collection service has started, please make sure that you use your new bin or re-usable rubbish bag for all your rubbish. If you have a re-usable rubbish bag (RRB), please make sure that you put your rubbish in tied black sacks before putting into your RRB.
Remember that you can recycle as many as 17 different types of recyclable items – including food waste – from your kerbside weekly. To find out more about what you can recycle, check out our recycling video or visit www.bathnes.gov.uk/recycle.
There are a small number of deliveries of wheeled bins and re-usable rubbish bags that are being made this week. If you are still waiting for your new bin or bag and you haven’t let us know already please contact Council Connect firstname.lastname@example.org 01225 39 40 00 so we can make sure you’re on our list.
To help make the transition as smooth as possible, the Council’s Waste Services Team has also been visiting areas where specific issues have been highlighted.
