Disabled Childrens Team - information sheet

What is the Disabled Children’s Team?

We are a team of social workers and an occupational therapist dedicated to serving disabled children and young people up to the age of 18 in Bath and North East Somerset.

We work with children and their families where a child has learning difficulties/disabilities and/or sensory impairment.

We also work with children who have long-term, or life threatening illnesses.

We can meet with you and your child to discuss what support and help you need.  We may work with you ourselves, or we may organise other support.  The aim is to help your child reach his or her full potential.

Assessing your needs

We help you and your child to identify the help and support that you need.  We also help you find these services, where they are available/appropriate.

Parents of disabled children have a legal right to have their child’s needs assessed by Social Services on request.  We try to include Health and Education specialists in these assessments to get the clearest possible picture of your child’s needs.  We can also offer an assessment of carers’ needs upon request.
