Agenda
Nikki took the group through the CP Forum webpage, including navigation to and around the page. This was to assist everyone in accessing the information on the site more easily and to ensure that access was as straightforward as possible. Minutes, papers discussed, guidance and the training materials to deliver whole school training are all available on this page.
1. Safer internet day – February 8th – activities/events
Schools have received information and links for lesson plans/activities for this day with a theme of cyber-bullying. Schools are doing a variety of things including assemblies; lessons; theatre performances etc. There will be a press release to promote the day and the work of the schools.
2. Training for teachers on managing cyber-bullying
Previously some schools have expressed an interest in learning more about cyber-bullying and how to manage this. SWGFL are willing to come and provide a day on this for relevant individuals in schools. This is distinct from the previous e-safety training provided. Some schools expressed an interest in this and the September/October period was felt the most appropriate. John Barnes will identify a suitable date in consultation with SWGFL and email out to schools for names on a first-come first-serve basis.
3. E-safety leaflets - distribution and promotion
These leaflets were recently distributed to all schools for year 5 and year 6 pupils. This has been extended to year 7’s also. Schools can order a number of resources for pupils, staff and parents on the Childnet International website, where these leaflets came from.
Equally on the digizen (www.digizen.org.uk) website there are really useful resources regarding social networking sites and a cyber-bullying video (called lets fight it together) on the films, games and resources section, that some schools have used and shown in assemblies, in classes etc.
4. Incident record form – all incidents -
Nikki distributed the incident log sheet which is meant to capture very brief details of any incident – whether using e-technology or traditional forms (i.e. face-to-face), of bullying, discrimination, e-safety incidents, homophobic, racist, allegations against adults etc. This form does not take the place of other processes in place to deal with these issues, but is meant to collate such incidents in one place, to give an overview of what is happening within the school.
Where several people take responsibility for different aspects of these (i.e. IT) then they can complete this form for the issues they deal with and the CP designated staff member can collect/collate these in one place. Where this information is captured in other areas (i.e. SIMS), there is no need to duplicate it.
Nikki as Chair of the E-safety working group, and member of the Anti-bullying working group, will be asking for returns every six months form schools on such incidents, to help give a picture of particular areas of good practice, themes, issues, training requirements etc.
a. Specific bullying/discrimination form
John disseminated a one page form on reporting bullying/discriminatory/ homophobic incidents. Currently the B&NES reporting form is 6 pages and too cumbersome, the one –page form leaves room for schools to input their own data rather than chose from the options provided. This form should be completed when there is an incident of homophobic or racist nature and where bullying has been established. These completed forms should be returned to Chris Jones, Senior Inclusion Officer, B&NES Council chris_jones@bathnes.gov.uk . John will make the necessary changes to the form and then they will be circulated and put on the anti-bullying webpage and the CP Forum webpage, both on the B&NES public website.
5. Draft CP and social networking policies
Nikki circulated these documents. The social networking policy has been adapted from the policy developed by Dorset. These documents are not meant to take the place of anything that the school may have developed, but may of use for those schools that are developing/revisiting their policies. These will be put on the CP Forum Webpage
6. Inspectors report – Update
This was previously circulated. There is not much difference from the previous one – except a reference to the ‘Provider information Portal’ that inspectors will look at regarding any allegations prior to visiting. This should not affect anything that schools needs to do as it relates to pre-inspection checks with the ISA and council.
7. Good practice sharing
Nikki introduced this item as wanting to give the opportunity for schools to present and share any issues/learning or good practice that they wanted to discuss and share at the meetings. Nikki will include this item at every meeting and asked for any school wanting to share or contribute to contact her between meetings.
8. AOB
Next meeting 5th May 2.00-4.00 at Writhlington.
