Next Give and Take Day confirmed on

  • Saturday 22 September 2012, Conygre Hall, Timsbury

The events we are attending are listed below but we are constantly adding more. We hope to meet you at one of them!

Food Lovers Hate Waste, recycling and composting road shows

Come along and meet us at one of our road shows - we will be happy to advise on your recycling, home composting and help you find out how to save money and cut down the amount of food you throw away.

We can help advise you on your weekly food waste recycling collection, where to buy more compostable liners and how to line your food waste caddy with newspaper.

  • See the bargain priced compost bins and water butts on offer at some road shows.
  • Pick up a freebie too!
  • Free roll of food waste caddy liners  if you complete our food waste recycling survey (whilst stocks last, and only available at some road shows).

Can you help?

If you are holding an event and would like us to attend, please contact Council Connect. If we cannot attend, we may be able to provide recycling and composting themed displays and leaflets instead.

Give and Take day

Our next dates confirmed are:
  • Saturday 22 September 2012  10am - 1pm, Conygre Hall, Timsbury

What is a Give and Take day?

Rebecca Minder at Peasedown Give and Take day

Give and Take days are a simple way for you to give away items you no longer need or take things that you do need, all for FREE! They are a bit like a one day freecycle session!

Our Waste Campaigns Team are organise these events. Residents from Bath & North East Somerset are invited to bring their unwanted items and give them to someone else who can make use of them.

Donations have to be in good condition - we will only accept items that other people can reuse.  We are not a waste disposal service!

Volunteers needed – if you are interested in helping out at one of these events please contact Council Connect.

What items do we accept?

  YES please!

  • Toys, bicycles and books
  • Small furniture*
  • Clothes and reusable linen e.g. sheets, curtains
  • DVD’s and CD’s
  • Garden ware and tools
  • Bric-a-Brac
  • Small electrical items in working order - to be confirmed

NO thank you!

  • Hazardous or toxic items e.g. paint
  • Foam furniture e.g. sofas, chairs, duvets, pillows
  • Gas appliances
  • Broken or damaged items
  • Videos
  • Tools requiring safety equipment
  • No bulky items e.g. Cupboards, wardrobes *

 * We will only accept small pieces of furniture or items that will fit into an average sized family car.

How does a Give and Take day work?

If you want to donate items, please bring them along to the venue between 9-10am or throughout the event (last donation 1pm).  Give anything you are bringing to one of our volunteers who will be wearing a badge. They will check and sort your donations. You don't have to stay but are welcome to browse amongst the items to see if anything catches your eye.

Taking items

All items are free to take, just help yourself, but remember not to be too greedy, please leave something for others.  We suggest maximum of 10 items per person.

Why are we organising a Give and Take day?

  • It’s good for the environment.

By reusing things it reduces the amount of natural resources such as oil, minerals, water and wood that we use.  It also reduces the amount of waste that has to be taken to landfill.

  • Saves you money!

With everything costing so much money these days, this is a good way of picking up a real bargain for FREE!

Our friendly Waste Campaigns Team will be on hand to offer advice on recycling, reducing waste and home composting.

Refreshments available on the day.

So we hope to see you there - please help us spread the word to your friends and family!
