We welcome all students to Bath and hope you will help us recycle as much as you can whilst you live here.

Whether you live on or off campus, you will need to know about the recycling and refuse services that you can use.  The following guide is a brief summary of the main services you are likely to need during your time here as a student.  Further information on the Council's waste services can be found by going to our main Recycling Rubbish and Waste page.

For advice on how to plan ahead when you move out at the end of term or  year please visit

Recycling

It is important that we all recycle as much as possible to reduce the damage caused by throwing things away.  Everything we collect for recycling is recycled back into a wide range of products that can be used over again.

Living in university accommodation (on or off campus)

You can recycle a great amount of your waste if you are living in university accommodation. You will find the most up-to-date information on your university website.

Bath Spa University http://www.bathspa.ac.uk/services/environment/green-focus/

University of Bath http://www.bath.ac.uk/accommodation/green/zerowaste/

Living off campus in private accommodation

Once you are living in private accommodation off campus, your recycling and rubbish will be collected by the Council.

Your recycling, cardboard, food waste and rubbish are collected on the same day each week. We provide:

  • A green box recycling collection for over 13 types of materials (see summary below)
  • A blue bag for your cardboard, food and drinks cartons (Tetra Paks) and brown paper.
  • Two black containers for food waste recycling collection

For more detailed information on this service, please go to Recycling Collections.

Food waste recycling collections

You can recycle all food waste, raw or cooked, including bones and scrapings from your plate. For more information on  food waste recycling collection please go to www.bathnes.gov.uk/foodwaste

Refuse collections

Please try to recycle and compost as much as possible to reduce the amount of rubbish you throw away.  Everything you throw away is sent to landfill. Food in landfill produces gases such as methane, a green house gas that is 21 times more potent than Carbon Dioxide and which contributes to climate change.

You can put your refuse out in black sacks or a conventional dustbin.  Please make sure the bags are properly sealed and not overfilled so we can lift them without splitting. Make sure any sharp objects are wrapped carefully to prevent injury
