Access for disabled people
Access to buildings influences the way people live and gives them the choice and right to equal opportunities in work, social and educational activities.
It is important that access is considered at the earliest possible moment and is not simply seen to be the minimum standard needed to comply with the building regulations, but as a commitment to provide for the needs of people using a building.
Bath & North East Somerset Council actively encourage a high standard of accessibility and we are committed to achieving the aim of "Good Access Benefits All".
If you require advice on the building regulations' access to and use of buildings requirements (Approved Document M), please contact Building Control.
Part M of the building regulations now requires that an access statement is provided with an application for works to a non-domestic building. Guidance on preparing an access statement can be found in paragraphs 0.20 - 0.28 of Approved Document M - Access to and use of buildings 2004 edition.
