Bath & North East Somerset Council - Dog Warden Service

Dog Warden Service

Dog Control Orders

Following the publication of proposed Dog Control Orders for various locations in the district, Bath & North East Somerset Council has listened to very strong initial views that have been expressed. In order to better communicate the detail of the proposals and their purpose, we are withdrawing the consultation immediately.

Encouraging responsible dog ownership and making open spaces even more safe and pleasant is still an aim of the Council. We will issue refreshed proposals later in the year.

Welcome

We are part of Neighbourhood Services and are proud to have achieved the Charter Mark Award for excellence in customer service. We operate five days a week with some weekend patrols and, in addition, early morning and evening patrols are carried out on request.  The service also has a confidential help line called FIDO (Find Idle Dog Owners).  The line is there for you to pass on details about irresponsible dog owners who commit offences.  You will not be asked to give your name or address, but you will need to give as much information about the offender as possible e.g. description of person and dog, time and place etc.  This allows the Dog Warden to be in the right place at the right time.  Thus the offender gets caught, and the problem in your area is resolved.

The Dog Warden has numerous other duties including:

  • Practical
  • Educational
  • Enforcement
  • Miscellaneous

As part of our remit to improve neighbourghood services, we have compiled a questionnaire to gain feedback.  It would be appreciated if you could spend a few minutes to complete our online survey.
