Bath & North East Somerset Council - Helping to Reduce Air Pollution

Helping to Reduce Air Pollution

Everyone can do their bit to ensure a clean and pleasant environment for all the inhabitants of Bath and North East Somerset. Help us to reduce air pollution by :-

Sensible Use of Vehicles

Road Vehicles are the major source of air pollutants in urban areas.

Before using your car ask yourself:

  • Do I really need to make this journey?
  • Could I use another form of transport such as a bus or a train?
  • Could I walk or use a bicycle?

If you must drive:

  • Drive as smoothly as possible. You will save fuel and cause your engine to emit less pollution.
  • Don't rev your engine unnecessarily.
  • Maintain your car. Make sure the engine is tuned properly and that the tyres are at the correct pressure.

At Home

  • Buy water based or low solvent paints, varnishes, glues and wood preservers.
  • Avoid burning solid fuels. If you live in a smoke control area use only authorised (smokeless) fuels.
  • Don't light bonfires when pollution levels in the area are high.
  • Never burn plastic or rubber.
