Transport Services is a division of Environmental Services, and is the area of the Council responsible for offering a wide range of transport, fleet and vehicle maintenance services. Within this it provides a comprehensive passenger carrying service for both Children's & Adult Services needs. Entitled children (as determined by the Children's Service admission process) and clients with Social need (as determined under the Adult Service welfare policy) come under the care of Transport Services for the duration of their journey to and from their school or other establishment.
We currently use our own PCV drivers and 50 contractors on the Authority's approved list. Services are regularly subject to Bath & North East Somerset Quality Control Inspections to ensure that vehicles are in a roadworthy and safe condition, and that an approved identifiable driver is being used. Safety on transport also includes expected behaviour by pupils. Please see the attached "Safe School Transport" leaflet.
We currently transport over 2600 pupils and other clients to and from schools and other establishments each day at a cost of circa £3.8 million p.a. We aim to offer an efficient service with safety and security of those being carried as our primary concern.
In the interest of providing the best possible service the service has a charter with regular surveys undertaken to see where it can do better. The service holds awards both for Investors in People and Customer Service Excellence of which it is proud.
