Primary and Secondary Transport

Primary and Secondary School Transport

Overview

Home to school transport assistance is provided once entitlement is determined by Children’s Services.

We currently use various means to supply school transport, including the public transport network, transport operators from the Authority’s approved list, or our own  drivers using our in-house fleet.  Whether your child is transported by taxi, minibus, coach, or public bus service will depend on factors such as existing vehicle/service suitability, the number of pupils travelling and available capacity.

All drivers are checked and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) cleared to the enhanced level.

Conduct and Safety

Good standards of behaviour are expected from child when travelling on school transport.  Poor behaviour, including bullying are not acceptable and are dealt with promptly.  Seatbelts should always be worn (where fitted) on school transport in accordance with legislation.  Seat belts are provided for comfort, but primarily for safety.  In the event of an accident it has been proven that seat belts do prevent serious injury or death.

Eating and drinking are not allowed on school transport vehicles.  Exceptions to this rule are children with diabetes or medical conditions which mean they must eat regularly.

Pupils are only able to travel on the vehicle for which their pass has been issued.  If there is more than one bus serving an area, please make sure your child boards the correct vehicle in order to avoid overloading.  Please see the attached "Safe School Transport" leaflet.
