Provision of a School Playing Field - Compulsory Purchase Order 2010
The provision of a playing field to Oldfield Park Junior School is part of Bath & North East Somerset’s ongoing commitment and investment in sports facilities. In order to achieve this Bath & North East Somerset Council have made a Compulsory Purchase Order of the smallholdings at the rear of the school and will be submitted to the Secretary of State for confirmation. Only when the Order has been confirmed is the Council authorised to purchase land under the Order.
The school wants the land to provide a playing field for pupils as it currently has no on site playing field or grassed areas. In October 2007 the school governors applied for planning permission for a change of use of the site to a playing field, which was granted.
The small holdings are in private ownership, but the site is designated under the Local Plan as land for primary educational use and although efforts are being made to seek private purchase from the land owners these are still on-going.
The lack of an on site playing field is a significant issue recognised by pupils, parents, staff and governors, as well as the local authority and OFSTED. The acquisition of this land will provide a safe, secure enclosed facility for the benefit of the whole school Community.
