Policy, Development & Scrutiny Panels regularly conduct investigations into local issues, things that matter to the public, so they can then help the Cabinet improve the way services are delivered in Bath and North East Somerset. These projects are called Policy, Development & Scrutiny Reviews.
The subject of a panel's investigation can be brought to their attention in a number of ways.
- A local issue that is of particular public concern and falls within the panel's remit
- A regular panel work item that the panel chooses to investigate further
- A specific request by a Cabinet Member
- A suggestion by the Director of the council service that the Panel covers
Reviews will all have a terms of reference and timescale to investigate chosen topics. Public consultation is an important part of a review and all of our current reviews will have a page on the Council's Consultation Calendar.
Panel's will produce a final report containing all the evidence they've found and a number of recommendations for improvements.
This report will be presented to the relevant Cabinet Member(s) at a public meeting. The Cabinet member will then decide whether to accept, reject or defer the panel's recommendations and report back after six weeks. At a later date, the panel will receive update reports on any accepted or deferred recommendations
