If you can't go to the polling station on polling day and don't wish to vote by post, you may be able to vote by proxy. This means allowing somebody you trust to vote on your behalf. Anyone can be your proxy as long as they are eligible to vote and are willing to vote on your behalf.
You can download a proxy application form from the "Related Documents" section on this page, or alternatively you can call the elections helpline on 01225 477333 to request a form.
The deadline to apply to vote by proxy is six working days before polling day. However, in the case of a medical emergency arising after the deadline for an ordinary proxy application, the closing date is 5pm on polling day.
If you appoint a proxy, you can still vote yourself if you do so before your proxy has voted for you.
If the person you have appointed as your proxy cannot attend your polling station they can apply to vote by post. Their application must be returned by no later than eleven working days before the election. If your proxy is given a postal vote, then you or your proxy will not be entitled to vote in person at your polling station.
