On Monday I attended an event alongside experts in local government from a range of sectors where we discussed the Chancellor’s Autumn statement and the impact it will have on local businesses. It’s important that the Council continues to support local businesses during this challenging economic climate so it was good to hear some examples of best practice and share ideas.

The week began with sadness in Bath after Henry Burke tragically lost his life after falling into the River Avon. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. Bath & North East Somerset Council is part of the River Safety Group which will be convened to review existing safety measures in place.

My week began with a meeting with the Syrian Refugee Committee to discuss how we can continue to help some of those affected by the situation in Syria. The conflict has left thousands of people living in extremely difficult circumstances and we may be able to offer more of these people help and support in Bath & North East Somerset in the future.
