My week began with a meeting with developers where we discussed potential future building projects for Bath and North East Somerset and the West of England. Councillors Richardson and Clarke also attended the meeting where we talked about housing projects, the Joint Spatial Plan and the positive effects that the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) will have on skills and jobs.

I also attended a briefing on the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority on Wednesday about how it will be set up and run. This is an exciting time for the area as it will give us greater freedom to plan for the future, invest in much needed new infrastructure and deliver the new homes and jobs our area will need in the years ahead. I look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming weeks.

My work with the Bath Business Improvement District (BID) continued this week when I met with its Directors. It’s important to work closely with traders and local businesses to strengthen our relationships in order to assist and protect local firms and support our growing local economy.

On Thursday night I was joined by Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees and Councillor Paul Smith from Bristol City Council on a visit to Julian House. We met some of the charity’s clients to hear their thoughts on how we can help those living on the streets. Julian House is a fantastic organisation and it is important we continue to support their work.

The Council’s Building Control Awards took place on Friday. This is the 17th year we have celebrated the work of builders and designers who have been involved in creative and innovative projects across Bath and North East Somerset. It was a really interesting event with some truly outstanding work celebrated. Well done to all the winners and nominees.

As we head into the weekend I am looking forward to Bath versus Northampton Saints at the Rec, after Bath’s loss to Newcastle last weekend. I will also be hoping that England can improve on their performance against France when they take on Wales in the Six Nations.
