Council Connect - find us on youtube.

We offer you a number of ways to make a payment:

Please note: Payments by credit card will have an additional 2.5% administration charge added to cover the transaction cost.  There is no additional charge added to any other transaction type.

24 hour options
We have two secure payment services that are available 24 hours a day. You will need your account number or invoice reference to hand to use these services.

  • Automated telephone payments: 0845 1204 330 (charged at local rate)

Please note: It may take up to two working days for these payments to show on your account.

You can use these services to pay for Council Tax, Business Rates, Council mortgages, Council invoices, Parking Services and annual Garden Waste invoices.  If there are any payments you would like to make that are not covered by the options above, please either email us or let us know through our feedback form.

Paying your Council Tax or Business Rates by Direct Debit

  • This is the cheapest way for us to collect payments and helps to keep your rates down.
  • Direct Debit allows you to keep your account up to date without having to remember to make a payment every month.
  • You have a choice of two payment dates - the 1st or the 15th of each month.

Your payments will automatically be deducted from your Bank or Building Society account. No amount will be deducted without you having been given notice and you can cancel the Direct Debit at any time.

Other options
Council Offices are open during normal business hours and are available to take payments.

Council Connect in Bath, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton have self-service payment kiosks.  These allow you to make a payment by cash, debit or credit card and also deposit cheque payments - in most cases without having to queue.  Automatic receipts are provided for the payment(s) you have made.

Cheque payments - please include the relevant details on the back of your cheque.  For example, your Council Tax or rent account number, your address and a contact number.  Envelopes are provided for you to deposit your cheque in the kiosks.

Please check our list of Council Offices to find the nearest location to you.

Payments at your local Post Office
If you have a plastic payment card you can pay your Council Tax at your local Post Office.  You must always allow at least 7 days for the Post Office payments to reach your Council Tax account.  All cheques should be made payable to “Post Office Ltd”.  Please also keep your receipt as this is your proof of payment.

To request a Post Office payment card, please email your full name, address and Council Tax account number to counciltax@bathnes.gov.uk.  We will send your payment card to you as soon as possible.  They usually arrive within 2-3 weeks from receipt of your request.
