Once a premise has been approved, to continue to be able to use the premises for civil ceremonies the licence has to go through the renewal application process. This is exactly the same as the original process but the fee is reduced to £1,200 (from £1,500) as not all the inspections may be required.
A renewal application can be submitted anytime during the last year of the current licence (preferably at least 3 months before the expiry date of the existing licence).
If you have not contacted the Authority, you will be reminded of your expiration date approximately 6 months beforehand. A further reminder will be sent after a further 3 months. However, this is to assist you only. It is your responsibility to renew the licence not the Authority’s.
After the three years unless an application for renewal has been submitted the property will no longer be an approved premise and no civil marriages or civil partnerships ceremonies may take place.
You may download the Renewal Application form as a PDF file. It is located underneath this text. You must read the accompanying annexes prior to completing the form.
