The voluntary and community sector have been supported through a number of commissions led by the Bath Stronger Communities team that help support the work of the sector and increase the numbers of people who volunteer across the district.
The first commission supports the work of DEVELOP Enhancing Community Support, which is a registered charity offering support to voluntary organisations and community groups, helping them deliver their services more effectively and supporting their long-term development and sustainability.
Their services are free to local groups and include:-
- Funding Advice: Bi-monthly funding surgeries, funding searches, support with writing applications or developing a fundraising plan, and more.
- Information Service: Weekly e-bulletins, interactive website, specialist books and email and telephone support.
- Networking Events: Regular meetings where groups can network, share information and hear speakers addressing current issues.
- Accountancy Support: Pro bono consultation for queries around accountancy, VAT or taxation matters.
- Legal Advice: Legal queries answered by charity law solicitors.
- Collaborative Work: Information and resources including a Collaborative Ideas Bank where you can link up with other groups doing similar work.
To find out more visit their website (link on the right) or Tel: (01225) 330090.
The second Commission is between Timebank in Twerton and the Volunteer Centre. This aims to roll out the concept of Timebank across Bath.
Timebank is a volunteer exchange programme whereby volunteers offer their skills to the community and in doing so build credits so in return they can get help in something that they need, such as support with DIY or gardening. Alternatively, they can exchange their credit to learn a new skill helping them in their personal or professional development.
For more information about Timebank, please contact Viv Talbot on (01225) 442813 or e-mail timebankplus@googlemail.com.
The Bath Stronger Communities Team also support the work of the
B&NES Compact Board. The aim of the Compact
is to maintain an effective relationship between statutory service providers and the voluntary sector.
Volunteering not only contributes to the economy, it helps many people in need and is key to creating stronger communities. The Stronger Communities team supports a number of different volunteering initiatives including the
Chairman’s Awards that recognise the value of volunteering and their contribution to building stronger communities.
