Bath & North East Somerset Council - Help for Students

Help for Students

If you are a parent who wants to study or train, you may be able to get help paying for childcare while you study. There is a range of funding available to help with childcare costs, depending on the type of course you are doing and your circumstances.

Care to Learn

Care to Learn gives financial support to teenage parents who want to continue their education or training and need help with the cost of childcare. You can get help if you are aged under 20 years and:

  • on a course that receives some public funding;
  • at a college, school or other course or
  • a non-employed trainee on work based learning

For more information contact Connexions on 01761 430900, call the national helpline on 0845 600 2809 or visit

Childcare Support for Students

If you are thinking about returning to study or if you are a student already, there is a Childcare Grant available, which is available to support students with children. You may be entitled to help with some of your childcare costs during term time and holidays depending on your circumstances. However, you cannot apply for the Childcare Grant if you or your partner receives the Childcare Element of the Working Tax Credit.
