A certificate relating to a Birth Death or Marriage that occurred in Bath and North East Somerset since July 1837 may be obtained from this office. All of the Births that occurred in our district between July 1837 and December 2007 can be found on the Bath BMD website. We would hope to process your application within five days. If applying through the post please give us a daytime telephone number, and a stamped self-addressed envelope, (please note that certificates are A4 size). The fee is £10 and Cheques should be made payable to "Superintendent Registrar"*
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION: due to essential works our certificate production service will be suspended from the 22nd June 2012 until the 9th July 2012. Applications made during this time will be held until the service resumes on the 9th July.

There are two types of birth certificate. The SHORT certificate which just contains the name, date and place of birth, costs £7.00/£12.00*, the FULL certificate is a copy of the entire entry in the register, giving the parents details. This also costs £7.00/£12.00*.
*Once a register is completed and deposited into the custody of the Superintendent Registrar the certificate cost rises from £7.00 to £10 and an application made over the phone will be subject to a £2 administration fee making the total payable £12.
You would need to supply the following information.
- The full name and surname (at the time of birth)
- The date and place of birth
- The parents full names and surnames and, where applicable, the mother's maiden surname.
N.B. If you wish to avoid paying the administration fee you can come and apply in person. You will be asked to fill out a form and will need to supply a stamped addressed envelope if you wish us to post the certificate on to you.
If you need your certificate very urgently we can produce it for you the same day*. The fee payable is £25 and we can send it out by 1st class post or you can come in and collect it personally.
