Bath & North East Somerset Council - Environmental Sustainability Partnership

Environmental Sustainability Partnership

Purpose

The Bath and North East Somerset Environmental Sustainability Partnership will oversee work across the LSP to achieve the following ambitions stated in the Sustainable Community Strategy:

‘To lead Bath and North East Somerset to an environmentally sustainable, low carbon and climate resilient future’

and to take action specifically to:

  • Ensure that Local Strategic Partnership organisations get their own houses in order and make significant cuts in carbon emissions, at least in line with the national targets (34% by 2020 and 80% by 2050);
  • Provide the community leadership needed to help people to reduce carbon across the district by around 45% by 2026;
  • Ensure that unavoidable climate change impacts are planned for, and that homes, businesses and the natural environment are safeguarded.

In taking this action on climate change, a wide range of strategic issues will be encompassed, including energy infrastructure planning and sustainable buildings, transport, peak oil, air pollution and waste management, as well as local green space, bio-diversity and protection of the natural environment.
