Introduction

This site has been developed with ease of use in mind. The Council web team has researched good practice in web usability and accessibility in order to come up with a web service which is suitable for the may different customers of the Council.

Below are a few tips to make the use of this site and the internet in general easier.

Site Navigation

This website has a number of different navigation methods to suit the needs of our customers.

Search: Text and Keyword based search.

Site Map: Navigate using the folder structure.  

A to Z: Alphabetical list of services.

Categories: Content grouped under themes.

Document Format

All of our pages are displayed in HTML format. Some information has also been offered in other formats such as PDF and Word. If you have any difficulties accessing any information on the site, please get in touch using the contact details on the left hand side of the page you are viewing.

Some information is available in PDF (Portable Document Format) form.  You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these documents. The reader can be freely downloaded from: http://www.adobe.com/uk/.

Viewers with visual difficulties may find it useful to investigate services provided to improve the accessibility of Acrobat documents: http://access.adobe.com/.

Some information is available in Document (Microsoft Word) form. To view these files you will need the Word Viewer. This is a plug-in which you can download (copy onto your computer) for free from Microsoft. Download the free Word Viewer.

How to save and print pages

Save

When you wish to download and save a document right click the hyperlink and click on 'Save Target As' from the drop down menu. If you left click the connection you will load that file to your browser for immediate viewing.

Print

When print or print preview is selected from the web browser's file menu, the left and top navigation and decorative images will be removed from the page for printing.

Translations

If you want to translate any part of the the site you can use this online translator from Google.

Please bear in mind that the translations are literal and do not take into account dialect or nuance.

Bookmarking Pages

If you want to keep a link in your 'favourites' menu to any of our pages, you can do so by creating a bookmark straight to that page.

In Microsoft Internet Explorer: 'Favourites' ---> 'Add to favourites' from the menu option.

In Netscape Navigator: 'Bookmarks' ---> 'Add Bookmarks'.

You can either just use the default page title so you know what the bookmark is when you next come back to it, or you can rename the bookmark anything you wish.
