Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are worked out and paid by local authorities. Other welfare benefits are paid through different agencies. For example the Job Centre Plus deals with Income Support; HM Revenue and Customs with Child Tax Credit, and the Pension Service with Retirement Pension and Pension Credit.
The best way to make a claim for Housing or Council Tax Benefit, or to tell us about a change in your circumstances, is to visit one of our local Council Connect Offices.
Other ways to get in touch:
You must tell us about any changes in your circumstances which might affect your claim, as soon as they happen. It is an offence not to tell us about any changes of circumstances that affect your benefit.
