To reduce it to 50% of the 1997 level by 2010.

TARGET 3: More Training

To make pedestrian safety training available in all primary schools in Bath & North East Somerset by year 2005.

To train 10% of all primary school children per annum (years 1-4) by 2005 and 25% by 2010.

TARGET 4: Reduce Car Usage

To contribute, along with other Council policies such as public transport priority measures, to meeting the Council’s target reduction in car journeys as a proportion of all trips.

TARGET 5: Safer Routes to School

To contribute, along with other Council policies such as extending the number of 20 mph zones, to meeting the Council’s target reduction in the proportion of school escort trips made in private cars.

TARGET 6: Safer Residential Areas

To contribute, along with other Council policies, to meeting the Council’s target for implementing pilot home zones.

TARGET 7: Better Health

To contribute, in close liaison with health promotion and other agencies, to meeting the Area Health Authority Health Improvement Plan’s target reductions in the incidence of diseases for which lack of exercise is a significant contributory factor.

TARGET 8: More Resources

To ensure that all appropriate funding bids include significant plans and schemes to benefit walking according to the provisions of the Bath & North East Somerset Walking Strategy. The needs of rural parts of the authority should be given equal priority with the main towns. Where possible, capital projects which help to encourage walking as a mode of transport should be highlighted in the Council’s programme.
