What is Fare Car?

Fare Car is available to residents of the Combe Hay, Shoscombe, South Stoke & Wellow area.  Fare Car is a safe and friendly shared taxi service at special rates. Fare Car is operated by Bath Taxis with financial support from Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Who Can Use Fare Car?

Fare Car is available to everyone who lives in the designated Fare Car Zone (see leaflet).

The Fare Car zone area is: Combe Hay, Shoscombe, South Stoke & Wellow.

Where does Fare Car go?

Passengers can travel from their home address to and from Bath City Centre. Fare Car will do its best to reach any address but some points may not be accessible by the vehicle.

When does Fare Car run?

Fare Car is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays but not Public Holidays.

How many Journeys are Available?

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 2 journeys are available from the rural area into Bath, and 2 journeys are available back from Bath to the rural area. Please see the timetable for further details.

Operating Mon, Tues, Thurs & Fri (not Public Holidays)

Arrivals in Bath: 10.30am 11.30am

Departs from Bath:   1pm   2.30pm

What is the cost?

The fare is £1.50 per person per single trip. The service works on a flat fare basis so from any point between the rural area and Bath the fare is £1.50. This is a subsidised fare and there are no further reductions for Diamond Travelcard holders or children.

Where are the pick up and drop off points in Bath?

The designated points are:

  • Henry Street (by Marks & Spencers)
  • Upper Borough Walls (outside The Min main entrance)

Do I have to book the journey back from Bath at the same time as I book the journey to Bath?

You can if you wish, but you do not have to. The journey back from Bath to the rural area can be booked up to 30 minutes in advance of the time of travel. There is a free phone to Bath Taxis in the food hall of Marks & Spencers.

Is the service wheelchair accessible?

Yes, Fare Car is wheelchair accessible. Please notify the operator when booking if you are a wheelchair user.

Fare Car is operated by Bath Taxis for Bath & North East Somerset Council.


How do I use Fare Car?

If you are a resident in the designated Fare Car Zone, firstly you need to be issued with your Fare Car membership number. Please call 01225 477615 to obtain your free Fare Car membership. Our travel advisors will complete the registration process by asking you for your name, address, and contact telephone number. You will then be issued with your Fare Car membership number and card.

How do I book a Fare Car journey?

Bookings must be made in advance of the time of travel.

To travel on the journey that arrives in Bath City Centre at 10.30am please book no later than 9am. For the journey that arrives in Bath City Centre at 11.30am please book no later than 10am.

To travel on the journey that departs Bath City Centre at 1pm please book no later than 12.30pm. For the journey that departs Bath City Centre at 2.30pm please book no later than 2pm.

Bookings may be made up to 1 week in advance.

Follow the steps below to make your booking:

  1. Select the journey, or journeys, you wish to travel on from the timetable.
  2. Phone Bath Taxis on 01225 447777 between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
  3. Quote the Fare Car membership number for each person wishing to travel (if you do not have a Fare Car membership number, obtain one by calling 01225 477615).
  4. Tell the operator the day/date you wish to travel, journey time, pick up address, drop off location, and the details of the homeward journey if required. Please tell the operator if you are a wheelchair user.
  5. You will then be given an approximate pick up time.
