Graffiti Reporting and Removal
Graffiti not only looks unattractive but actually gives an
impression of a run down area and adds to people feeling unsafe
when graffiti is present. It also has the potential to be
used as a type of coding on property (single parent in this
property etc). It causes significant long term damage to the
surface of structures and in the case of Bath Stone in particular
is very expensive to remove sympathetically.
The council targets graffiti with the following 2 services;
- Removal of graffiti on public
property
- The Graffiti Scheme - for private
property
"Graffiti Artists" thrive on the attention that they can get
from having their works in the public domain. As such, our
aim is to remove new items first. We hope this will lead to
frustrating the "artists" so that they feel they are wasting their
time and take their talent to a more constructive arena.
Thus, our highest priorities for removal are:
- Abusive or obscene messages & images
- New occurrences of "larger" items - i.e. those that take
effort & planning
By removing these items first & then acting on other issues,
it is hoped that we will deter the true "graffiti artists" and as
the 'cool factor' decreases, other elements - the more damaging
'copy cats' who mainly tag & scrawl slogans, will loose
interest
If you have any graffiti to report, please contact

or email CouncilConnect@bathnes.gov.uk.
Graffiti on Public Property
If you spot any graffiti on a public
property, then as Bath & North East Somerset Council have a
responsibility for maintaining these buildings & chattels, then
we will remove the graffiti. We will give priority to
graffiti that is abusive or obscene.
Please contact Council Connect on 01225
39 40 41 or via email at CouncilConnect@bathnes.gov.uk
to report any graffiti you discover. Please make sure you
include not only a specific location (building with road, or which
bridge) but also your name & contact details (we will not
charge or hold you liable for the work, however, in case of
confusion of the location, it is helpful for us to call you to get
a better location).
Please note that there are some items of 'furniture' that may
appear to be in the public domain, but belong to private companies.
Though we try to work closely with most people, some companies have
chosen to continue to deal with graffiti on their own, as opposed
to using our dedicated team. Some of those include:

Please note that we pass on a summary of graffiti attacks on public
property to the police for the purposes of targeting crime
Graffiti on Private Property
Graffiti is a crime. Please make
sure you let the police know about any as well as us, as they are
keen to crack down on this issue, and as such, all additional
information is welcomed.
If you have graffiti on your or a neighbours property, we will
need your permission before we can remove it. Thus, this can
sometimes take a bit of time.
We have set up a Graffiti Scheme, whose purpose is to remove
graffiti from peoples property. We will remove graffiti
free-of-charge from brickwork on your property. Before we can
do this, you will need to sign a 'waiver' that acknowledges that we
undertake this work at your risk, however it should be noted that
we don't anticipate any damage, nor have we caused any since we
started this service.
The removal of graffiti is done by area, so there may be a
delay between us receiving your disclaimer form and actually
removing your graffiti.
