Urban Resurfacing 2007

Work Summary

The urban resurfacing contract is scheduled to begin on Sunday 28th March. Properties adjacent to or close by the works will recieve advance information letters from the Council, andthe contactor will also deliver letters prior to the works.

This information will be updated on this webpage should dates/times change due to unforeseen circumstances.

Charlton Road - Additional Information:

Due to the complexity of the improvement proposals and associated works, detailed plans will be on view in the window of the Council offices adjacent to the Fire Station in Temple Street. The plans for public viewing in Temple Street will be on display from Friday 16th March for approximately 10 days.

The works commence on Monday 19th March and are expected to continue until Friday April 27th and have been broken down into two stages.

  • The ‘Civils’ works (comprising of structural changes for the pedestrian facilities and traffic calming etc) will be undertaken using temporary traffic signals, between the hours of 9.30am and 4.00pm Monday to Friday for a total of five weeks. Work will not take place between Friday 6th and Monday 9th April, Easter Bank Holiday week-end.
  • There will be a requirement for a road closure between the hours of 9.00am and 4.00pm on the section of Charlton Road which extends between the two junctions with Lays Drive, whilst the pedestrian refuge is reconstructed. This is expected to take up to 5 days, during the week commencing Monday 16th April.
  • The ‘Surfacing’ works (comprising of carriageway resurfacing, road markings, etc.) will commence on Sunday 22nd April, and are expected to be completed in 8 days – finishing on Sunday 29th April.  These works will be undertaken under temporary road closures, (excluding phase 5).

Diversion routes will be signed during the road closures, and every effort will be made to minimise noise and disruption by completing the works in as short a time as possible.

In the area of the works, pedestrian access to properties will be available at all times.  However, it should be noted that to accommodate the works, for vehicular access to properties adjacent to the works delays may be experienced, and on street parking may be suspended during works hours.  Where possible, access to adjacent properties and evening on street parking will be permitted out of works hours.
